Genuine Scooter Company was showing off its exciting lineup of scooters at Dealer Expo earlier this year. That's the big trade show where dealers come to shop for new products. Genuine Scooters has been filling out its scooter offering over the last six years since the company's first scooter, the Stella, made its way into dealerships. Founder and president Philip McCaleb had a clear vision to create that vintage look in a scooter that has new up-to-date technology.
Ads like this promoting the Stella have gone far in establishing the vintage-like quality of these new scooters. |
Black Jack
The scooter attracting a lots of attention at the trade show was the Black Jack, a performance version of the company's popular Buddy scooter.
The Black Jack, the newest offering from Genuine Scooter Company, has a claimed 90 miles per gallon! |
The Black Jack is a 150cc "rocket" (as the promotional materials say) combining performance and economy. The 4-stroke engine is air-cooled and powered by a CVT transmission. It boasts a top speed of 60 mph, great for zipping around town and the occasional quickie jaunt on the highway when necessary. The petal scalloped brake rotors allow for extra wear and tear. Comes standard with a solo seat as this scooter is designed for solo riders wanting to make a statement. Also as standard equipment high performance exhaust pipes. For now, it only comes in one color, black with red accents. But that's what makes the Black Jack, the Black Jack. The blacked out look is all the rage in motorcycling circles now with Harley-Davidson;s introduction of the Sportster Nightster two years ago, and the Sportster Iron this year. Flat black is edgy appealing to a whole different type of scooterist.
MSRP is $3,499 we think a fair price to pay for all that attitude and performance. Genuine Scooters also offers two years of free roadside assistance on new purchases, plus its standard two-year warranty. Wow! We can’t wait to test ride one.
The Buddy International
The beautiful warm red color of this scooter drew us in to learn more about this new Buddy International.
We love the Pamplona red color of the Buddy, one of the most popular scooters in Genuine Scooter's lineup. |
This Buddy International Pamplona joins its cousins, the Series Italia (an olive green color) the St. Tropez (a sea blue color) and is now available in two versions for 2009, a 150cc ($3,199) and 50cc ($2,199). New features for 2009 also include tubeless whitewalls tires, and a Stebel air horn (139 decibels) important to have when riding through congested urban areas. Top speed on the 150 is 60mph; the 50cc can go as fast as 30 mph, and you get as much as 100 mpg. The 150cc boasts 90 mpg.
The Roughhouse R50
We love the name because it implies you can have a little extra fun with this scooter.
The Roughhouse R50 makes a splash for its edgy, aggressive styling. |
The Roughhouse R50 is a 50cc 20-stroke featuring high performance knobby tires (for more aggressive scootering and tearing up the town), and a military green paint job that shows you mean business. Top speed is 30 mph with a 100 mpg range depending on conditions, rider's weight and altitude. Price is $1,999. It also comes in two more colors, black and blue.

Reader Comments:
The Roughhouse's actual top speed is 50. Its speedometer goes all the way to 50. It requires the removal of a few restricting pieces in the exhaust and transmission to achieve that top speed, though. When stock, though, it can hit 35 mph on a flat road.
